Every year we all come back with new years resolutions and halfway through the year we have dropped most if not all of them. Worry not, there is a better way of visualising your best self and showing up in 2020 as that person. The phenomenon of dream or vision boards. This is a way of making a list and turning it into a visual in your space, that reminds you of the promises you made to yourself.

The purpose of creating a vision board is to exercise one of the most powerful mind capabilities, which is visualisation. It is a known secret that when you focus on something it grows, for instance – when you keep thinking of a red Ford Fiesta you start seeing a red Ford Fiesta everywhere. This is an exact power of visualisation in practice. Now to apply it to your dreams and aspirations. The vision board must focus on how you want to feel not how you feel. Create a vision board that makes you feel positive about the things that are on it.

Don’t know how to make one? That is why we are about to teach and help you with easy ways to get it done. By representing your goals with pictures and words of affirmation/motivation you will strengthen and stimulate your emotions because your mind responds strongly to visual stimulation. The saying “A picture is worth a thousand words,” certainly holds true with vision boards.

What is a Vision Board?

A vision board is a visualisation tool which refers to a board of any sort or a chart used to build a collage of words and pictures that represent your goals and dreams. By placing visual representations of your goals into one space, you can easily visualise them frequently. Remembering to look at them daily and imagine them as if they have already come true.

How to Create a Vision Board

First before anything else, you will need a list of goals that you would like to achieve and words of motivation and affirmation that go with the goals. Find pictures that represent or symbolise the experiences, feelings, and possessions you want to attract into your life, and place them on your board. If you would like to move to a bigger place that is closer to work, get an image with a similar house and then write your intention next to the image. Some people go as far as going to car dealerships and taking pictures of themselves in their dream cars to include in their vision boards. You must have fun with the process! Use pictures, images cut out from magazines, pictures from the Internet–whatever inspires you. Be creative and include not only pictures of items but a picture of yourself, preferably one where you are happy.

This is however your manual vision board, but we all know that in the age of technology and AI everything has an online template or version. Please see below links to websites where you can get some cool online vision board ideas.

When you are done with your vision/dream board, you can start with the commitment of working toward the promises you made for yourself. You can do this by taking time-out every morning and/ or every evening to look at your vision board and visualising each item as a reality. You can also do the following.

  • Look at your dream board often and feel the inspiration it provides
  • Hold it in your hands and really internalise the future it represents
  • Read your daily affirmations and inspirational words aloud
  • See yourself living in that manner
  • Feel yourself in the future you have designed
  • Believe it is already yours
  • Be grateful for the good that is already present in your life
  • Acknowledge any goals you have already achieved
  • Acknowledge the changes you have seen and felt
  • Look at it just before going to bed and first thing upon awakening

Remember that nothing works if you don’t work. Actively commit to; working toward the goals, dreams and aspirations daily and you will succeed.
